I am Anastasia Strate a Utah photographer and here are a few things that I believe in…
* I believe that things happen for a reason. And this reason is God’s plan for us *
I was driving through the downtown of Salt Lake City the other night. Memories came to my mind of how I spent a year and a half of my life serving a mission for my church in that area. I never thought I would come back to this area; and more than that, I never thought I would be living six blocks away from it. How many times have you thought about things that happened to you and it all just made sense? I think of it as of a puzzle. We only see small pieces of it, but God sees all. He knows a bigger picture. I’m sure He has a lot of fun watching us putting together this giant puzzle.
* I believe you can stay friends even if you live far away from each other *
I’ve changed locations a few times in my life. And not only cities, but countries. There is always a disadvantage that comes with it: your friends stay behind. Nevertheless, I was lucky to maintain this relationships with some of my friends.
I especially felt this love and friendship this last winter. My father passed away and I had to take care of a lot of stuff. My friends were there to help me. They shared my grief with me. I feel really blessed to know that I have people who love me no matter how far away we live from each other.
* I believe in a good breakfast *
Something that has always helped me to get through the day is a good breakfast. Yes, I had a very determined grandma and parents who taught me the importance of breakfast. If you want me to be happy – feed me breakfast. That’s why my lovely husband wakes up every morning before me to prepare a magnificent bowl of oatmeal. Love you, honey!
* I believe that songs and smells carry the most memories *
Do you have a song that reminds you of some moment in your life? I know I do. I know that every time I hear James Morrison’s song “You Give Me Something” it reminds me of when I was 18.
* I believe that people who touched your life stay with you forever. Even if you have a different paths in life *
My dad passed away a day before my birthday. My flight back home was about 24 hours, including layovers. I had a layover in New York for 10 hours overnight. At that point, I didn’t actually sleep for more than 20 hours. I had to check in for my next flight, but the receptionist wasn’t there. I was so tired and sad that I started crying. A lady came to me and tried to calm me down. She was so nice and compassionate. It really touched me. And I don’t even know her name. Kindness is touching.
* I believe that forgiveness is a road to happiness. Let it go *
People hurt and will always hurt you (intentionally or not). Choose to forgive. I was never as happy as when I let it go. It is your life and it doesn’t have to be focused on someone or something else.
* I believe in love. I believe that love is the greatest gift *
I’m in love. I’m in love with my husband. He is so loving. He is always taking care of me. We joke saying that I wouldn’t survive without him. And it’s so true. It’s nice to have a person that you can always rely on. He also always gives me a lot of kisses and hugs.
One of the things to know about me is that I’m impatient and forgetful about closing lids. And my husband is patiently closing things after me. Those little acts of service and love are the things that make me fall in love with him over and over again.
To be continued…
